Addressing the event, Wilfried Eckstein, director of the Goethe Institute Hanoi, noted the German Film Festival 2020 is expected to bring the very best of German cinema to Vietnamese audiences, so as to satisfy film lovers.
The event is set to feature a diverse range of films for viewers, with up to 13 screenings of eight German films with both Vietnamese and English subtitles, he said.
According to Eckstein, the opening ceremony of the film festival is due to get underway on the evening of September 12 at the Hanoi National Cinema Center with a showing of "The Rebel", directed by Nora Fingscheidt, which won the Silver Bear award during the Berlin Film Festival 2019 along with a number of other international prizes.
Organisers said that each of the films have been carefully selected by the Goethe Institute and German experts in the hope that they will help audiences gain greater insights into excellent films of different genres. In addition, they will also provide viewers with updates on the prevailing trends of German cinema as well as learning about German culture, life, and politics.
The German Film Festival regularly tours through major Vietnamese cities. This year, as a result of measures implemented due to COVID-19, the dates for screening films in Da Nang, Hoi An, and Ho Chi Minh City have yet to be fixed, meaning Hanoi will host the year’s first German Film Festival.
