Three students of the provincial boarding school were quarantined on April 29 after 37 out of nearly 500 students at the school had flu-like symptoms such as headache, high temperatures, and body discomfort.
Sample testing results showed that the three students were infected with the swine flu strain A/H1N1 that killed two in neighbouring Yen Bai Province and one in Thanh Hoa Province in early April.
The three students are recovering after being hospitalized.
On April 27, five locals in Lang Tong Village, Quang Kim Commune, Bat Xat District, were admitted to the provincial general hospital, showing symptoms of coughing, high temperatures and breathing difficulty.
They all tested positive for the deadly strain A/H1N1.
They patients are now recovering, and those who had contact with them remain in good health condition.
The provincial administration has asked localities to strengthen monitoring, take preventative measures, and be well prepared for any outbreak of swine flu epidemic.
