Speaking with VietNamNet, Professor Huynh Van Chuong, Director General of the Quality Management Department under the ministry, said that among them, 969,141 candidates are currently in Grade 12, accounting for 95.25%, while 48,341 are independent candidates, making up 4.75%.

Of those registered so far, 6,331 candidates are exempt from the foreign language exam, representing 0.62%. Online registrations account for 1,004,398 candidates, or 98.71%, while 13,084 candidates registered in person, equivalent to 1.29%.

A representative of the Quality Management Department noted that candidates are allowed to adjust their registration information until 5pm on May 5.

The 2026 high school graduation exam will take place from June 10 to 12, with official testing scheduled on June 11 and 12.

Candidates are required to sit four exams, including two compulsory subjects: Mathematics and Literature. For the remaining two subjects, candidates can choose from those studied in school, including Chemistry, Physics, Biology, Geography, History, Economic and Legal Education, Informatics, Agricultural Technology, Industrial Technology, and foreign languages.

The exam content is based on the upper secondary curriculum, primarily focusing on Grade 12 knowledge, with some questions drawn from Grades 10 and 11. The test is designed according to the ministry’s framework, covering different cognitive levels: recognition, understanding, and application.

The 2026 exam papers will continue to follow a competency-based approach, similar to 2025, including a proportion of questions aimed at differentiating candidates, particularly those requiring the application of knowledge to real-life situations.

Multiple-choice exams will follow formats previously released by the ministry, including multiple-option questions, true-or-false items, and short-answer questions. Scores in these sections are not evenly distributed across questions, with varying point values assigned.

Literature remains the only subject tested in essay format, and exam prompts will continue to use materials outside the official textbooks.
