VietNamNet Bridge – Builders in the central city of Tuy Hoa, Phu Yen province, on November 22 discovered 12 mortar shells underground.

The case was immediately reported to the military command of Tuy Hoa city.

The mortars are stained and rusty and are very easy to detonate. The local military command has sent soldiers to the site to further check and protect the mortar shells.

Senior Lieutenant-colonel Nguyen Ngoc Duc, chief commander of Tuy Hoa military command, said that the mortars will be moved to a safe place to be buried with salt.

He said salt will gradually erode and destroy the shells.

He also said that this kind of artillery (81mm mortar shells) was manufactured by the US and used in the Vietnam War. They can detonate very easily and inflict a lot of damage.
