From September 16 to 22, the Ministry of Information and Communications, through its National Cybersecurity Center (NCSC), issued warnings about several emerging scams affecting Vietnam’s internet users. These scams have increasingly targeted gamers, job seekers, and even unsuspecting citizens with fake police notifications.

Here are the three most prominent online scams to be aware of:

1. Fake gaming websites using celebrity endorsements

Online gaming fraud has surged, with scammers setting up fake websites, often mimicking well-known platforms. These sites use images of celebrities or influencers (KOLs) in the gaming industry to gain trust and lure users into purchasing high-value in-game items. Victims are typically required to provide personal details and make payments, only to realize they’ve been scammed.

Expert Tip: Avoid clicking on suspicious links or providing personal information on unfamiliar websites, especially those offering unusually high discounts or time-limited offers.

2. Fake traffic fine notifications from impersonators

Many citizens have fallen victim to scammers posing as traffic police, sending fake "traffic fine" notifications through phone calls or messages. These scammers ask victims to provide personal details, such as bank account numbers or identity card information, and request immediate payment of the fines.

Expert Tip: Authorities always send official traffic violation notices directly through formal channels. Do not respond to unsolicited calls or texts requesting personal information.

3. Online job scams promising quick cash

Scammers have also targeted job seekers with promises of easy, high-paying "online tasks" that require no special skills. Often, these jobs require participants to pay upfront fees or invest money, only for the scammers to disappear after the payment is made.
