Reviewing the late leader's life and revolutionary career, chairman of HCM City Labour Federation Nguyen Huy Can said that in Viet Nam's revolution history, Thang held an important position.
He was the pioneer in organising the labour union for struggling Vietnamese workers.
With their creativity and solidarity tradition, the city workers and officials were determined to inherit the legacy of Uncle Ton, implementing the tasks of Viet Nam's labour union and contributing to the country's construction and development progress, Can said.
On the same day, Sang attended a Ton Duc Thang University celebration to inaugurate a statue of Thang in its precinct.
Sang appreciated efforts made by the university, saying the statue had political and cultural significance.
He asked the university to promote the moral examples of President Ho Chi Minh and President Ton Duc Thang.
He presented the Second Class Labour Order to the university for its achievements.
