This is the first visit of by a Vietnamese military delegation since the Southeast Asian nation reopened its embassy in Mozambique in 2009.

During the visit, the delegation met with some senior military leaders, worked with Mozambican relevant agencies and visited Viettel telecom group.

On the  occasion, Viettel decided to provide the Mozambican Defence Academy with  teaching equipment worth US$200,000.

Talking to the delegation,  Mozambican military leaders expressed admiration for the tradition of safeguarding and building the nation  and the military arts of Vietnam, saying they want to learn and exchange experience in defending independence, sovereignty,  and territorial integrity, as well as the army’s contributions to the national economic development in the peacetime.

Mozambique appreciates the valuable assistance and cooperation of the Vietnamese army in the fields of strategic research, training, force building, improved infrastructure and economic development of the army. Mozambique will dispatch military personnel to attend international training courses in Vietnam, they said.

Senior Lieutenant General Vo Tien Trung in turn affirmed Vietnam’s willing to share its valuable experience with foreign armies and traditional friends who stood side by side with the people of Vietnam in their past struggles for national liberation and reunification and the current process of national construction and defence.

Trung also briefed his hosts on the recent developments in the East Sea and  the consistent policies of the State and Vietnam People's Army for defending territorial integrity and sacred sovereignty of the nation.

Vietnamese and Mozambican armies had maintained close-knit relations since Mozambique gained independence and Vietnam enjoyed national reunification in 1975. In 2011, the two  Defence Ministries signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on defence cooperation during the visit to Vietnam by the Mozambican Defence Minister and both sides exchanged defence attachés.
