China is not a member of the international Mekong River Commission (MRC), but the country must work with Mekong countries to solve the question on water security in accordance with the Lancang – Mekong Cooperation Mechanism, experts say.

People in the Mekong Delta are worried about the absence of floods this year as the Mekong River Commission (MRC) has warned about the record 10-year low of the river’s water level.

Thailand has begun taking water from the Mekong River and pumping it into its northeastern areas, which are suffering from drought. However, it did not consult in advance with neighboring countries, which are all members of MRC.
