Mrs. Kim Hong, the Vietnamese representative in the Mrs. World jury, said that the misspelling of the name of Vietnam (Vietnem) on the band of Quynh was only discovered after the finale.
Hong explained that as a jury member, she was not allowed to approach the candidates so she did not detect the error early. Marmel, President of the Mrs. World organization had investigated the matter and responded to the Vietnamese delegation’s complaint over the mistake.
According to Marmel, contestants had to wear two types of bands: the band for sideline activities and the band for the finale. The later band was delivered to the candidates at the final rehearsal so the contestants and the organizers did not quickly detect the errors. In addition to Vietnam, the names of some other countries were also wrong, such as Ireland and the Republic of Dominica.
Marmel, on behalf of the organizing committee, offered an apology to Quynh and Kim Hong. He also sent a letter of apology to Mr. Hoang Tuan Anh - Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Vietnam.
In the letter, Marmel admitted that this was the mistake of the organizers, not Quynh or Kim Hong.
Mr. Nguyen Thanh Nhan from the Performing Art Agency also said that the incident was largely due to the fault of the organizers, but he said that Quynh would be reminded of this incident.
In the finale of Mrs. World 2013 in Guangzhou, China in the evening of November 23, the Vietnamese contestant Tran Thi Quynh entered the top six.
However, the Vietnamese audience discovered that Quynh wore a band with the wrong name of Vietnam (VietNem). She also carried a wrong-displayed national flag in the show.
