The event is held on March 17 annually.
On this day, all Muay Thai kickboxers head to the ancient city of Ayutthaya to celebrate the birthday
of the founder of Muay Thai, Mr. Nai Khanomtom.
It is compulsory for Muay Thai fighters to burn incense and shake joined hands
in front of the temple of the founder.
This event has become a festival of Muay Thai.
Vietnamese Muay Thai fighters, including the leading athletes like Nguyen Tran Duy Nhat,
Phan Thi Ngoc Linh, Le Huu Phuc and Nguyen Quoc Hung, has gone to Thailand to attend the
festival and to compete at the Muay Thai semi-professional championships in Bangkok.
The event will open on March 14.
Vietnam has just invested in this martial art in recent years. Vietnamese fighters only participate
in amateur and semi-professional competitions. In 2010 and 2011, Vietnam won gold
medals at world amateur and semi-professional Muay Thai championships.
Muay Thai has been known in the world in the last 10 years. Through Thai movies, the traditional
martial art of Thailand has attracted many practitioners. Foreign practitioners are called “nak muay farang.”
