VietNamNet Bridge – A multi-language color illustration book on the Tale of Luc Van Tien, an epic poem written in nom (the old Vietnamese script) by famous poet Nguyen Dinh Chieu in the 19th century, has been released by the Culture and Art Publishing House, Sai Gon Giai Phong reports.

Eugène Gibert, a Lieutenant in the French Artillery, was so impressed by the tale that he did a manuscript based on the original poem and illustrated by Vietnamese artist Le Duc Trach.

Gibert’s manuscript was given to the Academy of Inscriptions and Letters in Paries in 1899.

During his visit to the library of Paris in 2011, Professor of history Phan Huy Le was introduced a couple of precious documents, including a book on the Tale of Luc Van Tien.

After French and Vietnamese scholars did joint research on the book, the École Française d’Extrême-Orient (the Academy of the Far East) cooperated with the Culture and Art Publishing House to release the book in French, Vietnamese and English.

The book comes with two volumes and three parts, namely a color illustrated narrative poem, the author’s annotation and a narrative poem.
