The Red Socks Brassquintett from Munich will stage a gala concert on May 10 at 8 p.m. at the Opera House in HCMC’s District 1.

The event is among activities to celebrate the Europe Day (May 8), organized by the European Union Delegation and the Goethe Institute in Vietnam. Apart from the performance in HCMC, the quintet will put on two concerts at the Hanoi Opera House on May 8-9.

The brass ensemble has a wide-ranging repertoire from old masters such as Bach or Handel to American composers of the 20th century, from jazz to Argentine Tango. It is promised an impressive concert with sounds of five brass instruments. A special highlight of the program is a performance with traditional German alphorns. These wind instruments are up to three meters long.

Audiences will have a chance to enjoy a joint performance of these alphorns with traditional Vietnamese instruments of the Bamboo Ensemble Suc song moi, directed by Dong Quang Vinh.

The Red Socks Brassquintett which was established in 2010 has had regular tours in Germany and overseas. Its members were professionally trained of classical music and have played for prestigious orchestras.

The quintet received a scholarship of Yehudi Menuhin Foundation’s “Live music now” program right after its establishment day. Since then the quintet has pocketed numerous awards and scholarships in the world.
