Although no trailer of the MV was released as a teaser beforehand, it was enthusiastically welcomed by the singer’s fans and its title was among the most searched words of the day on Google.

The high number of views of the video are due to the singer’s huge fan base and because other well-known Vietnamese artists shared the MV on their personal pages. The MV also attracted many listeners curious about My Tam’s latest song, since she has not released any new video for a long time.

The singer’s emotional expressions also contributed to the high views.

Written by hit-maker and composer Khac Hung, Dau Chi Rieng Em is a story about a girl who suffers silently when her boyfriend has relationship with another girl. She keeps silent, observing and saying nothing until she cannot stand it anymore and bursts into tears in despair. She finally understands that she must end the relationship not just for herself but also for others, and therefore puts an end to the sad love story.

“The MV has basic colours and is filmed with just one close-up shot,” My Tam wrote on her YouTube channel.

“It only has one scene of me sitting at one place and performing solo in front of a black background. Although all its details appear basic, it was not easily to film. Since there was only one close-up filming angle, I had to figure out how to express the struggle within in a profound manner. Even the crying scene had to be performed naturally and truthfully.”

Phan Thi My Tam, born in 1981, best known simply as My Tam, is Viet Nam’s No 1 pop star. She has achieved fame with popular songs such as as Hoa My Toc Nau, Hat Voi Dong Song, Uoc Gi and Giac Mo Tinh Yeu. She has won many local and international awards, including Best Asian Artist at the Mnet Asian Music Awards 2012.
