National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung.
During his six-day stay in the Southeast Asian nation, he held talks with NA Chairman Hung and was received by Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and State President Truong Tan Sang. He also worked with Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Nguyen Minh Quang, Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh, and leaders of Ho Chi Minh City.
Mr Lavin and Mr Hung signed a cooperation agreement which will form a legal framework for strengthening ties between the two legislative bodies and consolidating the Vietnam-Chile comprehensive partnership and friendship.
The Senate President was also warmly welcomed by other Vietnamese leaders, who expressed their belief that the visit will mark a milestone in developing the friendship, as well as opening up opportunities for bilateral, regional, and international cooperation.
The Chilean Senate President spoke highly of Vietnam’s achievements in its Renewal (Doi Moi) process. He said he is confident that under the sound leadership of the Communist Party, Vietnam will be able to fulfil its target of building “a rich people, a strong nation, and a democratic, equitable, and civilized society”.
He reaffirmed he will spare no effort to foster cooperation with the Vietnamese people and National Assembly.
Both sides informed each other of the political, diplomatic and socio-economic situations in their own countries and proposed cooperation initiative to fully tap their potential. They said they will do their best to strengthen ties and consolidate the comprehensive equitable partnership for mutual benefit, and support each other in regional and international forums for the development of their countries and for peace, stability, cooperation and development in Southeast Asia, Latin America, and in the world as a whole.
During their visit to HCM City, Mr Lavin agreed to establish friendship ties between the Vietnamese city and Chilean cities.
Also on the occasion, Mr Lavin and his entourage laid a wreath in tribute to late President Ho Chi Minh in his Mausoleum, visited the Vietnam History Museum and the Temple of Literature in Hanoi and the War Remnants Museum, Thong Nhat Palace, and the Nha Rong Harbour in HCM City.
NA Chairman, Chilean Senate President sign co-operation pact
National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung and Chilean Senate President Guido Girardin Lavin singed a co-operation agreement in Hanoi on March 1.
The agreement provides the legal framework for co-operation between the two organizations to help consolidate the comprehensive partnership and friendship between Vietnam and Chile.
Accordingly, the Vietnamese National Assembly and Chilean Senate are committed to boosting co-operation in legislative and judicial activities while respecting mutual sovereignty and national self-determination.
The two organizations will promote the comprehensive co-operation between the two States and Governments in the fields of politics, foreign affairs, economics, trade, the environment, science and technology, education, agriculture, health care, culture, sustainable development and management.
Both sides will closely co-operate at the Asia-Pacific Parliamentary Forum, the World Parliament Association meeting and other events.
