The Vietnamese NA chief expressed his pleasure at Myanmar’s successful parliamentary election and its new status as a full member of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA). He also agreed with the Myanmar President’s proposal to promote bilateral cooperation in various fields, especially in economics, trade and national defence.
The two legislative bodies should coordinate in setting up Vietnam-Myanmar groups of members of parliament to create favourable conditions for strengthening bilateral relations in line with the expectations of the two peoples, Mr Hung added.
For his part, President Thein Sein highlighted the time-honoured relationship between Vietnam and Myanmar, saying that his visit aims to consolidate cooperative relations for mutual benefit.
Economic and trade cooperation have developed steadily in recent times and more and more Vietnamese investors are keen to invest in Myanmar, Mr Sein said.
On the occasion, President Thein Sein conveyed best wishes from the Speakers of Myanmar’s Lower House and Senate to NA Chairman Hung, and affirmed his country’s determination to further develop relations between the two countries.
