Following the ceremony at the National Assembly building, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man held talks with his South Korean counterpart Cho Jeong Sik.

Cho expressed his appreciation that Tran Thanh Man was the first foreign guest received after South Korea’s National Assembly completed the formation of its new leadership.

The visit carries particular significance in strengthening political trust and advancing the implementation of high-level agreements between the two countries.

Cho said the visit would also deepen cooperation between the two legislatures. He expressed hope that the Vietnamese Government and National Assembly would continue developing and improving the legal framework to give South Korean businesses greater confidence in making stable, long-term investments in Vietnam.

Expressing his affection for Vietnam and its people, Cho agreed with Tran Thanh Man’s proposal for greater support for Vietnamese citizens and businesses in South Korea and pledged to create favorable conditions for them.

Tran Thanh Man praised the central role played by South Korea’s National Assembly and said he was impressed by Cho’s governing principles, including a focus on delivering tangible results that people can feel, expanding public participation and strengthening legislation for future industries, digital transformation and artificial intelligence.

Vietnam has consistently regarded South Korea as one of its most important strategic partners and hopes bilateral relations will continue developing strongly, substantively, effectively and sustainably across all fields.

Recognizing the contributions made by South Korean businesses, Tran Thanh Man called on the National Assembly to encourage companies to expand investment in Vietnam’s priority sectors, including infrastructure, semiconductors, large-scale AI data centers, energy and seaports.

He also called for greater opportunities for Vietnamese companies to participate more deeply in South Korean manufacturing supply chains.

Expanding cooperation in human resources, culture, tourism and people-to-people ties

During their talks, the two National Assembly leaders agreed to advance a strategic vision for economic connectivity between Vietnam and South Korea amid changing global conditions, with the goal of delivering tangible benefits to both sides.

The two countries aim to increase bilateral trade to $100 billion in 2026 and $150 billion by 2030 in a balanced and sustainable manner.

The two sides agreed to continue prioritizing grants and concessional official development assistance for Vietnamese projects and to promote science and technology cooperation as a new driver of bilateral relations.

They also agreed to pay greater attention to improving policies that would enable businesses from both countries to invest with confidence and maintain stable, long-term operations in each other’s markets.

Both sides agreed to expand cooperation in human resource development, culture, tourism and people-to-people exchanges to deepen mutual understanding and connections between their citizens.

They also agreed to continue improving policies to protect the legitimate rights and interests of Vietnamese people living in South Korea and South Koreans living in Vietnam, including around 100,000 Vietnamese-South Korean multicultural families, helping them live, study and work with confidence over the long term.

On parliamentary cooperation, the two leaders welcomed the progress made between their legislatures in recent years and emphasized the important role of parliamentary diplomacy in monitoring and advancing commitments and agreements, helping make bilateral relations deeper, more effective and substantive.

The two sides agreed to strengthen exchanges of experience in developing laws and institutions for sustainable development and promote greater interaction between specialized parliamentary committees, both in person and online.

They also agreed to effectively implement the memorandum of understanding on cooperation signed between the two legislatures in November 2025.

The two sides agreed to strengthen the role of their legislatures in coordinating oversight of the implementation of international treaties and intergovernmental cooperation agreements, while improving policies and laws to create a favorable legal environment for businesses and citizens of both countries.

They will also continue coordinating and supporting each other at regional and global inter-parliamentary forums.

Discussing regional and international issues, the two National Assembly leaders agreed to strengthen coordination and mutual support at multilateral forums.
