Nguyen Tuan Kiet beat Jinn Yee Tan of Malaysia 2-0, while Nguyen Hoang Nam easily defeated U Leong of China's Macao 2-0 to enter the second match of the qualifying round.

Vietnamese player Truong Thanh Long lost to Indonesia's Putra 0-2, while his compatriot Nguyen Thien Loc was defeated by Qi Cong of Malaysia 0-2.

Viet Nam has sent eight players to compete in the event, in which 350 players from 23 countries and territories are participating.

Nguyen Tien Minh, seeded seventh, is the only Vietnamese player to qualify for the main round so far. He will meet Liew Daren of Malaysia (world number 87) in the first match of the main round tonight, August 25.

A total cash prize of US$50,000 will be up for grabs, with $3,750 and $3,950 being awarded to each singles and doubles title winner, respectively.

The event will end on August 30.
