VietNamNet Bridge – Viet Nam lauds the efforts of the Organisation International de la Francophonie (OIF) and its leadership to help some member nations deal with conflicts and crises, said Vietnamese deputy foreign minister Nguyen Ngoc Son at the 27th ministerial conference of the OIF held in Paris last week.

Chaired by Swiss president and foreign minister Micheline Calmy-Rey, the conference drew the participation of representatives from 56 member states and 19 observing countries.

Addressing the conference, Son said that the OIF should continue promoting its strength by supporting countries in the post-crisis period, focusing on reconstruction and eliminating risks caused by crises and conflicts.

The OIF should also coordinate with relevant regional and international organisations to improve the efficiency of its operations and to consolidate its role and position in the international arena, he said.

Participants at the meeting reviewed the implementation of commitments made at the 13th meeting in Montenegro in October 2010 and affirmed their determination to further realise these commitments and promote multilateral co-operation in a variety of fields.

The conference also discussed preparations for the next meeting, slated for Kinshasa in the Democratic Republic of Congo in October 2012.

On the sidelines of the conference, the Vietnamese delegation held bilateral working sessions with the director of the OIF and leaders and delegations of some member countries to discuss measures to foster co-operation between them and Viet Nam.

Member states lauded Viet Nam's role in and contribution to the OIF, expressing their hopes to further strengthen co-operation with Viet Nam in such fields as trade, agriculture, mining, telecommunications infrastructure, and education and training.

Son told the Vietnam News Agency correspondent in Paris that OIF Secretary General Clement Duhaime would visit Viet Nam in January 2012 to accelerate some co-operative projects.
