Last week the Commission for Draft Amendments to the 1992 Constitution of the National Assembly worked with HCM City on collecting people's opinions on the draft amendments to the Constitution.

Chairman of the HCM City People's Council, Ms. Nguyen Thi Quyet Tam, said that the city collected 3,882 comments from the total of 14,410 participants.

According to Tam, most of the opinions said that the draft is good. Besides many new and progressive features, there are unsuitable things. People mainly made comments on the three chapters: Chapter 1, 2 and 9, but the most is the chapter on urban authorities.

HCM City people said that the constitution should more clearly define the urban and rural authorities in the current trend of development.

Ms. Tam said that the city would strengthen the collection of people's opinions on the draft amendment of the 1992 Constitution and it would send the first report on this issue to the Steering Committee on March 15.

National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung said that HCM City’s population is more than 10 million people but only a few hundred thousands of people made comments on the Constitution is not compatible.

Party Secretary Le Thanh Hai suggested sending the entire document to each household to study and make comment.

NA Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung affirmed that the Constitution must come to life. This is the basis for the construction and defense of the country. Vietnam is in the process of building a renovated constitution to suit the practical situation.

He asked HCM City to do this task more extensively. He confirmed that the Commission for Constitution Compilation will receive the opinion of the people until October, when the National Assembly votes on the amended Constitution.
