Various activities have been held nationwide to mark Vietnam’s National Day (September 2).
At a meeting in Haiphong, Chairman of the Municipal People’s Committee Duong Anh Dien spoke highly of the city’s efforts to fully implement the resolutions of the 11th National Party Congress, maintain social security and achieve a high growth rate.
Since March 2011, Dien said, the city has drawn as much as US$2.8 billion from domestic and foreign investors, especially those from Japan into its key projects.
** At another meeting in Ben Tre, Nguyen Van Hieu, Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee, said the recent launch of major infrastructure projects such as Rach Mieu, Ham Luong, and Ben Tre 1 bridges will help speed up socio-economic development in the province.
For years, he noted, Ben Tre has maintained its local economic growth rate of over 9 percent. Per capita income in 2011 rose to VND23.6 million (2.7 times higher than in 2006), budget revenue hit VND1,100 billion, and the number of poor households dropped below 13 percent.
On this occasion, the Ben Tre provincial Party Committee, administration and people received the Independence Order, third class, for their outstanding achievements in national construction and defence.
** Many other provinces have also enjoyed National Day celebrations with all the traditional pomp and circumstance.
