Kites of every composition and description have graced the skies of cities around the globe, elevating themselves and the spirits of the people flying them for thousands of years.

If you would like to elevate yours – and who wouldn't – take some kids and some kites to the kite festival at Dam Sen Cultural Park in Ho Chi Minh City this National Day, says Vnexpress Online.

There event runs 10am-8:30pm on Saturday, September 2. There is plenty of parking and admission is free.

It is one of the most delightful events that will occur anywhere in Vietnam this holiday, say the organizers. Seventy-two kite enthusiasts from all over the country have already registered to participate.

If you get hungry, keep an eye out for food stalls that will feature favourite fast food and some more traditional dishes from Thailand, Japan and Vietnam.

For musical entertainment there are singing, dance and circus acts galore that will play a wide array of music from a large variety of genre.

It is predicted the wind will be fast enough to fly those extravagant kites shaped like fishing boats, dragons or squid. The organizers say one of the coolest kite displays will be a substantial number of kites flying simultaneously in the shape of the flag of Vietnam.

National Day is all about impromptu picnics in the parks and having lots entertaining fun and— yes, it's all about flying kites this coming holiday at the Dam Sen Cultural Park in HCM City.
