The selection of new head coach for the Vietnamese national football team is on its right track and his name will be publicly announced by the end of this month, said the national coaches’ council chairman Nguyen Sy Hien on Wednesday.

The Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) will soon shortlist five best coaches from the initial list of 20 foreigners and three local coaches.

An official of the VFF revealed that German coach Hans Juergen Gede, 55, is the most prominent coach now.

He led the national sides of Uzbekistan and Iran and coached several clubs in Bahrain and Iran.

The recruitment of new coach to replace Henrique Calisto who resigned on March 2 is part of a preparation plan for the national team to compete at World Cup 2014 qualifiers and Olympic London 2012 in June.

To save time, VFF decided last week to set up a group of local coaches to watch V-League games so that they can recommend qualified players for the national squad to the new coach.
