This is the second time Phuc announced to step down. At a meeting with the VFF after the 27th SEA Games, Phuc expressed his wish to withdraw from the position.

At that time, VFF Acting Chairman Le Hung Dung asked Phuc to hold the position after the game between the team and Hong Kong.

VFF Secretary General Ngo Le Bang said he would report to the VFF Phuc’s decision and the federation would make the final decision.

Phuc’s resignation is unavoidable because both the national team and the U23 team failed to meet the set targets.

"Currently, the VFF is focusing on the upcoming congress, which is scheduled on March 25. It needs some time to decide a major issue as replacement of the chief coach," Bang said.

The VFF also wants to change the chief coach of the national squad and hiring a foreign coach seems to be a good choice.

It seems that the new coach will be named before the national squad is convened in June.
