The Vietnamese gymnastics team has left the country to attend a training course in Canada from March 30 to April 20, announced the General Department of Sports and Physical Training on March 31.

Accordingly, the 17-member team will have their travel and accommodation expenses during the course sponsored by the Canadian partners.

The training course is part of preparations for the 28th Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games) to be held in Singapore next June.

Recently, gymnast Phan Thi Ha Thanh won a gold and a silver medal in the eighth FIG Artistic Gymnastics Challenge Cup in Qatar.

Vietnamese athletes top medals table

Vietnam topped the 92nd Malaysia Open Track and Field Championships, which closed recently in Kuala Lumpur.

The Vietnamese athletes stormed the tournament with seven gold, seven silver, and one bronze medals.

Among the winners, Hoang Van Thai triumphed in the men's 800m event as he finished the race in 1 min 52.95sec. Do Thi Thao stood second in the women's 800m race, with a timing of 2:8.95. Le Thi Huyen topped the women's 400m race a timing of 53.34sec. Quach Cong Lich won the men's 400m category in 46.99.

The overall second spot was bagged by Angkatan Tentera Malaysia ATM, who claimed six gold medals. They were followed by Thailand's team, who won five titles.
