
The Panorama of Hanoi’s 1000th anniversary
Bat Trang ceramic and pottery village’s artisan Nguyen Van Binh and his assistants made a biggest pair of pottery dragons which are copied from a pair of the Ly dynasty. Each dragon is 30m long, 15.6m wide and 8.2m high, holding a gemstone ball of 57kg. Around 6,000 enamel plates and 4,000 enamel cups baked meticulously have been used to make the dragons’ body.
The largest wood-engraved piece of “Chieu Doi Do” (“Edict on the Transfer of the Capital” written by King Ly Cong Uan on the move of Vietnam’s capital from Hoa Lu to Dai La – Hanoi at present) was made of valuable wood and gold. The royal proclamation is 4.58m long, 3.85 m high and weighs five tons.
A pair of 10 meter-long Ao dai was embroidered with 1,000 phoenixes and 1,000 dragons. Designer Lan Huong spent more than one year to design the couple of Vietnamese traditional dresses called “Thousand-year convergence”. She mobilized 1,000 embroiderers of Quat Dong traditional handicraft village in Hanoi to complete the dresses which were made of Van Phuc –Ha Dong silk.
Xuan La village in Phu Xuyen District, Hanoi, is the most famous and age-old to he (toy figures) village in Vietnam. To he is a traditional toy for Vietnamese children made from glutinous rice powder and shaped into edible figurines such as animals, flowers or characters from folk stories on the occasion of traditional festivals.
A biggest buffet with 1,000 dishes was held in Hai Phong City from September 27 to October 2.
A giant grilled chopped cuttlefish was imitated and copied from the Golden Turtle in Ho Guom (Sword Lake). The dish is 1.38m long, 0.9m wide and 0.5m high.
A bicycle parade took place on September 26 with the participation of 1,000 students and young people.
A drum choir entitled “Noi trong Lac Hong-Ngan nam Thang Long” (A thousand years of Thang Long to beat the Lac Hong drums) is organized with a great number of 100 bronze drums dubbed the designs of ancient bronze drums excavated in Ngoc Lu, Quang Xuong, Hoang Ha, and Song Da.
In related news, a sapphire turtle made by the DOJI Gold and Gems Group was presented to the Ha Noi People's Committee as a gift for the city's 1,000th anniversary on October 3. The turtle, made from a monolithic sapphire, weighs two tons.
