VietNamNet Bridge – A caretaker coach will be appointed to lead the national squad at the upcoming Asian Cup qualifiers.

Vietnam will take on the United Arab Emirates (UAE) at My Dinh National Stadium in Hanoi on February 6, 2012, and Hong Kong in another away match on March 22, 2013.

The Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) has made the proposal to the National Administration of Sports and Physical Training.

Chief Coach Phan Thanh Hung resigned a week ago after Vietnam’s poor performance at the ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) Suzuki Cup.

VFF will try to select the best coach to lead the national squad, as well as the national U23 team at the upcoming Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games) in Myanmar in 2013, said Nguyen Lan Trung, VFF Vice President, at the federation’s executive committee meeting on December 13.

Le Hung Dung, another VFF Vice President, said VFF welcomes any candidates no matter he is a local or foreign coach, provided he devotes himself to Vietnamese football.

VFF plans to call in the best national players at the recent Suzuki Cup 2012 and several prospective young players to prepare for the Asian Cup qualifiers.

The VFF Executive Committee turned down an earlier proposal to include the national squad on the list of clubs for the 2012-2013 national football tournament (V-League).

Instead, the squad will play between 14-16 friendlies before competing at international tournaments in 2013.
