“Colors of the Northwest” is selected as the theme for National Tourism Year 2017 which opened last weekend in Lao Cai city, Lao Cai province.

This event will promote cultural values of more than 30 ethnic minority groups and the beauty of the northwestern region. 

The year-long tourism program includes the Four-Season Festival, Thuong Temple Spring festival, Sa Pa summer festival, Bac Ha Highlands Festival, Y Ty Autumn Festival, and Sa Pa Winter Festival. 

Cultural and sports activities will take place including the International Cycling Competition, Marathon Competition, Bac Ha Food festival and Sa Pa flower festival. 

Manh Duc Chinh is a visitor from Hanoi: “It’s a nice idea to organize the 2017 National Tourism Year in Lao Cai province because the province has good transportation, beautiful landscapes and unique culture. I believe that tours of the region will welcome more visitors.”

The National Tourism Year will also involve many other cities and provinces around Vietnam. Nguyen Van Binh is Head of the Steering Committee for the Northwestern Region: “With the theme “Colors of the Northwest”, National Tourism Year 2017 will promote culture and the image of Vietnam’s northwestern region to foreign visitors. 

The region has great tourist potential thanks to its diverse culture of more than 30 ethnic minority groups, magnificent landscapes, and unique festivals.”

This year, Vietnam aims to attract at least 10 million Vietnamese and foreign tourists.
