Hoang Vissai (red).
Hoang Vissai was not a ‘star’ at Ninh Binh FC. He did not have many chances to play at V-League 2012. At the National Cup 2012, he was selected for a match but the newly-nationalized player made a scandal. After a conflict with another Nigerian player of Hanoi FC - Timothy, Hoang Vissai threatened to kill Timothy. Both players were fined. Hoang Vissai was rejected from the main team of Ninh Binh FC. His bonus and salary were also reduced.
After this incident, Hoang Vissa try to seek a new FC but his contract with Ninh Binh extends to the end of 2012 so he had to play for Ninh Binh. In the fourth round of V-League 2012, Hoang Vissai was used again, after Nhu Thanh had his arm broken. The Nigerian-born player performed well. Ninh Binh signed another 3-year contract with him.
However, Hoang Vissai made difficulties for the team after the new contract was signed. After Euro 2012, Ninh Binh permited its player to stay at home until June 17. Hoang Vissai did not return to the team on June 17. Ten days later he appeared, explaining that he had been busy with curing his wounds.
Three days later, Hoang Vissai disappeared again. Ninh Binh FC could not contact him. The absence of Hoang Vissai was a big loss for Ninh Binh because Nhu Thanh was still injured and Hoang Vissai was the key defender.
Hoang Vissai is not the only example. Dong Tam Long An FC benefited a lot from Brazilian-born player Fabio Santos or Phan Van Santos but the team also suffered a lot from this naturalized player.
In 2008, after being granted the Vietnamese citizenship, Phan Van Santos began to be lazy at practice. The Brazilian-born goalkeeper asked for higher salary, for longer contracts. He played very well for the national team in a friendly game against Olympic Brazilian team but he withdrew from the national squad before the AFF Cup 2008. Why? Because he failed to ask for a 7-seat car from Dong Tam Long An. After this scandal, Santos left Long An to Navibank Saigon.
Another Brazilian-born player, Nguyen Rogerio, made Da nang FC to cry. Joining this FC in 2005, Nguyen Rogeria earned a lot of money. Besides monthly salary of nearly $10,000, he earned high commission after recommending Alimeida for Da nang FC.

Ninh Binh FC is perhaps the most unfortunate team, with the case of Ukraine-born goalkeeper Mykola of Dinh Hoang La.
Mykola came to Vietnam in 2006. After a period of time working at the Thanh Long Sports Center, he was recruited by Thanh Hoa FC, being paid $500.month. Playing for Thanh Hoa for a short time, he joined Ninh Binh. Thanks to Ninh Binh’s assistance, he was granted the Vietnamese citizenship, and a Vietnamese named Dinh Hoang La. Immediately being nationalized, he asked $200,000 from Ninh Binh to sign a new contract. Ninh Binh did not agree, Dinh Hoang La joined Binh Duong FC.
Foreign players’ about-face after they are granted Vietnamese citizenship explains why Vietnamese FCs have no longer been keen on recruiting foreign players and seeking Vietnamese nationality for them.
After Hoang Vissai of Ninh Binh FC and Le Van Tan of Hanoi ACB, Vietnam has not had any new nationalized players.
