The Central Steering Committee on Natural Disaster Prevention and Control reported that natural disasters had totally destroyed 440 houses and damaged 7,000 others and had damaged over 200,000 hectares of crops in the country since early this year.

As many as 119 people in Vietnam are dead or missing so far this year due to natural disasters.

Deputy Prime Minister Le Van Thanh has asked the Central Steering Committee on Natural Disaster Prevention and Control and localities to closely follow natural disasters to have suitable solutions. Thanh cited the National Centre for Hydro-meteorological Forecasting as saying around 8-10 storms would occur on the East Sea by the year-end, including 3-5 to directly affect Vietnam.

Most storms would ravage Vietnam between October and November.

Rainfall in the northern, central and Central Highlands regions from now to the year-end would be higher than that of many previous years, bringing about landslides, inundation and flash floods.
