Under a draft circular compiled by the Ministry of Transport’s Việt Nam Register, a family car with under nine seats is set to expire registration until June 30, 2024, and will automatically be an extension of their registration for six months.
After December 31, 2024, car owners must continue taking their vehicles for registration as per regulations.
The ministry said the move aimed to fix the current overload situation in vehicle registration units in the country.
Therefore, the registration units will have more time to focus on approving registration for vehicles operated for commercial purposes and expired registration.
The draft circular has been published on the ministry's website to receive comments between May 25 and May 30. The circular is expected to be issued and take effect this June.
Statistics show that family cars with under nine seats account for about 33-43 per cent of the total number of vehicles due for registration, especially in Hà Nội and HCM City.
They are privately-owned vehicles and maintained and repaired by their owners better than those used commercially.
The pass rate at the first verification of the privately-owned vehicles is very high (95.84 per cent in 2020, 96.33 per cent in 2021 and 95.12 per cent in 2022).— VNS
