At noon on September 12, Nguyen Duy Hoa, Secretary of the Bac Ha District Party Committee, confirmed to VietNamNet that rescue forces were continuing their efforts to locate victims of the landslide in Nam Luc Commune.
On September 10, a severe landslide buried eight houses in Nam Tong Hamlet, resulting in seven deaths, 11 missing persons, and 11 injuries.
Rescue operations are ongoing, with nearly 300 people mobilized to assist in the search for the missing victims.
"The search is primarily done manually because machinery cannot access the area. This morning, additional earth and rocks slid down, further complicating the search efforts," said Nguyen Duy Hoa.
Most residents in Nam Tong Hamlet rely on agriculture, and the landslide has devastated their crops and properties.
As of the evening of September 11, Bac Ha District reported 15 deaths and 19 missing persons due to flooding and landslides. The disaster has also severely damaged infrastructure, hindering rescue and recovery operations.
The Bac Ha District administration has requested that the Lao Cai Provincial People’s Committee allocate funds to address the immediate needs of affected areas.
Priorities include restoring infrastructure, reopening isolated transportation routes, providing medical supplies and equipment, and assisting households impacted by property and production losses.
