The competition was organised by the Ha Noi Youth Union and the municipal Department of Education and Training.

Speaking at the inauguration, Nguyen Khanh Binh, deputy secretary of the Youth Union, said the body and its partners had, in the past few years, organised different competitions to look for outstanding students in IT and provide them a platform to prove their talents.

The competition aims to find young talents to supplement the country’s high-quality human resources, he said.

The competition is divided into two parts. The first is common for primary, junior secondary and high school students. The second part is for software and hardware creations.

According to the event organiser, the questions this year focused on practice, heightened knowledge of application and creative ability.

Dang Duc Long, a contestant from Khuong Mai Junior Secondary School in Thanh Xuan District, said he and two of his friends created the software, “Drawing geometry on smart devices”. They hoped the new software would make it easier for teachers and students to teach and study geometry.

“The software is easy to install and free for users,” Long said.

The teachers can use the software on projectors while reducing the need for students to bring too many books.

“In the next competition, my friends and I will complete the software to make it ready for use,” Long said.
