Positive shifts in cybersecurity awareness
Following its 2024 personal cybersecurity report, the NCA has released findings on the cybersecurity landscape among Vietnamese organizations and enterprises.
The study, conducted in December 2024, surveyed nearly 5,000 organizations nationwide. It highlighted improvements in cybersecurity awareness, increased investment in technological solutions, and efforts to standardize security protocols.
Key findings include: 85.11% of organizations have installed antivirus software for computers and servers. 75.68% have adopted firewall solutions. 64.13% have implemented data backup and recovery systems. While 75.68% of organizations conducted at least one cybersecurity awareness training for employees this year, 24.32% did not provide any training.
Innovative solutions are gaining traction: 47.11% of organizations are exploring centralized security operation center (SOC) solutions. 35.26% have adopted cybersecurity intelligence services. Rising threats and common attack methods.
The cybersecurity landscape in 2024 saw a sharp rise in the number and scale of cyberattacks targeting businesses, government agencies, and institutions in healthcare and education.
An estimated 659,000 cyberattacks hit Vietnamese organizations in 2024, with 46.15% of surveyed entities reporting at least one attack. Alarmingly, 6.77% faced frequent attacks.
The most common attack methods include:
Advanced Persistent Threats (APT): APT attacks, often involving spyware, accounted for 26.14% of incidents. Espionage attacks: Targeting sensitive data.
Ransomware attacks: 14.59% of surveyed organizations reported ransomware incidents, posing a severe threat as encrypted data often becomes irretrievable without paying the ransom.
Recommendations for enhanced cybersecurity
NCA experts emphasize the urgent need for improved cybersecurity measures to address growing threats.
Regular system audits: Scan for vulnerabilities in applications, software, and network devices; apply security patches promptly.
24/7 monitoring: Continuously monitor network activity to detect anomalies early.
Incident response plans: Establish clear protocols for responding to breaches and ensure periodic data backups to minimize losses.
Vu Ngoc Son, Chief Technology Officer of NCA, highlights the importance of collaboration: “Strengthening cybersecurity requires coordinated efforts between the government, enterprises, and the tech community. Rapidly completing the legal framework and fostering timely information sharing are critical to safeguarding national cybersecurity and fostering growth in the digital era.”
