The Sun Group has held a breaking ground ceremony for the Kim Quy (Golden Turtle) Amusement Park in Hanoi, inspired by Disneyland.

New amusement park for Hanoi

A representative from the Sun Group confirmed with VET that the project’s first phase has investment capital of VND5 trillion ($227 million) and will be completed within 18 months.

The amusement park is located in the capital’s Dong Anh district on an area of 198 ha.

The park will feature an open space for outdoor activities with cutting edge technology, including a Sun Wheel and hot-air balloons, among others.

It will also comprise an arts area and the Kim Quy cultural village, which will host large-scale arts shows. High-tech amusement facilities will also be installed that meet international standards.

The amusement park has been designed by the ITEC Group, a leading global company from the US specializing in designing parks, and was also inspired by the story of the Co Loa spiral-shaped citadel, which was built by Emperor An Duong Vuong.

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc told the gathering at the breaking ground ceremony that the project is part of the capital’s effort to work towards the government’s target of developing tourism as a spearhead economic sector and to realize the city’s development vision towards 2030.

He also urged Hanoi authorities to quickly complete site clearance to create favorable conditions for the park’s investors while also asking investors to fulfill their commitments regarding the progress and quality of the project.

The Kim Quy (Golden Turtle) Amusement Park is part of Hanoi’s plan to build 25 new parks, including three-five international standard parks, in the 2016-2020 period, according to Mr. Nguyen Duc Chung, Chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee. The project will be comparable to Disneyland in Hong Kong.

The Sun Group is one of the largest real estate groups in Vietnam and the biggest investor in central Da Nang city, with dozens of notable projects in hotels, resorts, amusement parks, and urban areas, including the InterContinental Da Nang Sun Peninsula Resort, the Novotel Da Nang Premier Han River, the Premier Village Da Nang Resort, and Ba Na Hills Da Nang, among others.

As at the end of July, Hanoi had 3,768 registered FDI projects with total investment capital of about $27 billion, according to the Foreign Investment Agency (FIA) under the Ministry of Planning and Investment (MPI).

There were approximately 2.05 million international visitors arriving in Hanoi in the first six months of this year, up 34 per cent against the same period of 2015, according to the Hanoi Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
