The HCM City People’s Committee has asked the Department of Transport to develop a plan for a new entrance at Tan Son Nhat International Airport.

The entrance is planned for the northern part of the airport, providing a link to Thong Nhat Street in Go Vap District.

It will connect to major streets, including Quang Trung, Le Duc Tho and Nguyen Van Luong.

The construction will ease access to the airport for people living in northern districts, such as District 12, Hoc Mon and Cu Chi, and travellers from the Cuu Long (Mekong) Delta and south-eastern provinces.

It will also help ease traffic on Truong Son Street which serves as the airport’s only entrance.

The construction of another terminal and parking facilities will also be considered.

The city asked the department to submit the plan by March.

As a way to ease traffic to the airport, the Department of Transport began construction of two flyovers near the area on February 8.

One is being built at the Truong Son – Tan Son Nhat – Binh Loi Ring Road intersection, while the other is located at the Nguyen Thai Son – Nguyen Kiem intersection.

Construction is expected to take approximately 10 months.
