VietNamNet Bridge – The Foreign Minister, Pham Binh Minh has appointed Luong Thanh Nghi, director of the Foreign Ministry’s Foreign Press Center, as the chief of the Information and Press Department and the new spokesperson.


Nghi has assumed the new position as of September 14, replacing Nguyen Phuong Nga, who was promoted to Deputy Foreign Minister on September 12.

Nghi, born in 1965, graduated from Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam in 1988 and started working at the Foreign Press Center from 1989.

He was Vietnam’s deputy consul general in Osaka city, Japan from 2003 to 2006.

He was deputy chief of the Foreign Ministry’s Information and Press Department from 2006-2008.

In March 2008, he was appointed as Director of the Foreign Press Center.

He speaks fluent English and knows Japanese. He also participated in a two-year course on television in Japan.
