Vietnam aims to welcome 17-20 million international tourists and 82 million domestic ones by 2020, generating revenue of 35 million USD and contributing 10 percent to the country’s GDP.
To achieve that, the country has deployed various measures, including holding the first national tourism conference in Hoi An ancient town in 2016, issuing a resolution to develop tourism into the country’s key economic sector in January 2017 and using e-visas since February 2017.
However, there is still much to be done to turn tourism into a key economic sector.
Human resources in tourism have failed to match tourist arrivals growth. Some 50 percent of employees in the sector have not been trained.
Experts said those involved directly in tourism are who leaves impression on visitors of Vietnam as a friendly and safe destination.
Tourism managers need to develop brands for key destinations and strengthen promotion.
With 30 heritage sites recognised by the world and thousands of historical and cultural spots, Vietnam is rich in potential for tourism development.
