Vietnamese filmmakers are preparing to release new movies to entertain audiences during the coming holiday to celebrate National Day on September 2.
Television producer Vũ Thành Vinh will introduce his directorial debut Hai Muối, which is about salt farming and family love.
The movie revolves around a salt farmer named Hai living in Thiềng Liềng, a beautiful island in Thanh An Commune of Cần Giờ District, the only district bordering the sea in HCM City.
Hai is a single father who devoted his life to raising his daughter.
When his daughter grows up and moves to the city to study, their different thoughts of life lead to a conflict between father and daughter.
Meritorious Artist Vinh said at the press conference to announce his movie last week that he spent several years preparing and writing the film script.
“Although this is a family movie, it will have fresh and touching details because it is life,” Vinh said.
“I hope audiences will love their parents more after watching the movie.”
Vinh, 48, graduated in Cinematography and Directing at the HCM City University of Cinematography and Theatre in 1999.
He has produced several TV shows such as Solo Cùng Bolero (Singing Bolero), Cười Xuyên Việt (Let’s Laugh), and Gương Mặt Điện Ảnh (Movie Star), which have become popular among Vietnamese audiences for nearly 10 years.
Vinh invited actor Quyền Linh, who has been absent from the widescreen for 20 years, to play the father.
The work also features Huỳnh Bảo Ngọc as the daughter, and People’s Artists Hồng Vân and Việt Anh.
The 55-year-old Linh said he was attracted by the script and the character as a father of two daughters.
“I want to introduce my daughters to a father named Hai who I love so much, as well as my wonderful moments and joys of being a father,” Linh added.
Linh rose to fame in the 1990s, playing leading roles in movies and TV series such as Người Hà Nội (The Hanoian), Những Nẻo Đường Phù Sa (The Saga of Alluvial), and Đồng Tiền Xương Máu (Bloody Money).
Since the 2000s, he has become the host and producer of several charity TV shows, and a film producer.
Linh is currently a vice chairman of the Việt Nam Cinema Association.
The movie Hai Muối will be in theatres on August 30.
