The play An Ly va Than Bang Gia (An Ly and the Snow Queen) is a Mongolian fairy tale about a brother and sister named Kha An and An Ly who live with their mother. Because of arrogance and immaturity, Kha An and An Ly have caused many troubles to their family.
Well-known artists like Thanh Loc, Le Khanh, Dai Nghia and Thanh Thuy will participate in the play.
The play will be performed from May 27 to June 26 at the Ben Thanh Theatre at 7 Mac Dinh Chi Street in District 1.
Chu Kien Lac Loai (A Lonely Ant) is the Hoang Thai Thanh Drama Theatre's new play for children about the adventure of an ant, Kien Lua, finding his fate.
Artist Thanh Hoi, director of the theatre, said: "This summer, the theatre targets children's audiences, so the play promises to have interesting and surprising details."
The play will feature popular actors, including Thanh Hoi, Ai Nhu, Van Anh, Kim Hien and Quoc Thinh.
Chu Kien Lac Loai will be staged beginning on May 29 at the Hoang Thai Thanh Drama Theatre at 7 Le Quy Don Street in District 3.
Other theatres in the city are ready to entertain children this summer as well.
The Kim Van Cai Luong (reformed opera) Troupe will present a special cai luong play for children titled Tieu Anh Hung Nam Quoc (Young Hero of Viet Nam), portraying Tran Quoc Toan of the Tran dynasty today.
The premiere of a series of funny short plays for children, titled Um Ba La Xi… Cuoi (Smile Spell) will be produced on June 1, the International Children's Day, at the Phu Nhuan Theatre.
Puppet plays like Vi Sao Thuong Luong Hoa Rong (The Reason Why Fish Turn into Dragon), Bat Gau (Catching Bear) and Qua Tao (An Apple) will entertain children at outlying districts during the summer.
Huynh Anh Tuan, director of IDECAF's mini theatre, said the number of children's plays had fallen this year because of high production costs but the producers were hopeful that this summer's repertoire would be successful.
