The 15th Thai Nguyen Provincial People's Council, serving the 2026-2031 term, held its seventh session, a special meeting on personnel matters, on the afternoon of Sept. 19.

Opening the meeting, Bui Van Luong, deputy secretary of the provincial Party Committee and chairman of the Provincial People's Council, said personnel affairs were particularly important to building a strong political system capable of meeting the requirements of each stage of development.

At the meeting, the council completed procedures to relieve Vuong Quoc Tuan of his position as chairman of the Thai Nguyen Provincial People's Committee for the 2026-2031 term and elect his successor.

A day earlier, the Politburo had decided to reassign Tuan, a member of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee and then deputy secretary of the provincial Party Committee and chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, to another position.

The Party Central Committee's Secretariat appointed Nguyen The Manh, then deputy head of the Central Commission for Policy and Strategy, to the Thai Nguyen Provincial Party Committee and its Standing Board and named him deputy secretary of the provincial Party Committee for the 2025-2030 term.

He was also nominated for election as chairman of the Provincial People's Committee for the 2026-2031 term.

The Provincial People's Council subsequently elected Manh to the position.

In his acceptance speech, Manh thanked the Politburo, the Secretariat, the provincial Party Committee and the Provincial People's Council for their trust.

He described the new position as both an honor and a responsibility to the Party, the state, local authorities and the people of Thai Nguyen.

Manh pledged to work with the Provincial People's Committee to uphold solidarity, pursue innovation and devote their efforts to serving residents and advancing the province's development.

As head of the provincial government, he said he would focus on maintaining administrative discipline, improving the effectiveness of state management, promoting economic growth and industrial development, expanding strategic infrastructure and strengthening regional connectivity.

The province will also promote science and technology, innovation and digital transformation; accelerate key projects; strengthen dikes, reservoirs and irrigation systems; and gradually develop modern, integrated and climate-resilient urban infrastructure.

On socioeconomic development, Manh emphasized agriculture, tourism, trade and services, along with greater investment in education, healthcare and culture.

He also pledged to strengthen social welfare, narrow development gaps between different areas and develop a highly skilled workforce.

The new chairman said Thai Nguyen would continue administrative reforms and expand the use of digital technology in services for residents and businesses.

Other priorities include preventing corruption and misconduct, strengthening national defense and security, maintaining stability and ensuring a peaceful environment for residents.

Manh expressed confidence that Thai Nguyen would build on its revolutionary heritage and the achievements of previous generations of leaders, as well as the aspirations of its people.

The province aims to become a major modern economic and industrial hub of Vietnam's northern midland and mountainous region and the Hanoi Capital Region by 2030.

Closing the meeting, Luong congratulated Manh on his election as chairman of the Provincial People's Committee.

He expressed confidence that Manh and the provincial government leadership would maintain solidarity, pursue innovation and build on previous achievements in working toward Thai Nguyen's socioeconomic development goals.

Luong also acknowledged Vuong Quoc Tuan's contributions to the province's development.
