VietNamNet Bridge - Scientists have announced a new tree rat species named Chiromyscus thomasi, which was found near Lung Lo Pass in Son La province, northern Vietnam.

The new species is named Chiromyscus thomasi in honor of British zoologist - Oldfield Thomas - for his contribution to the discovery and description of mice of the genus Chiromyscus sp.

According to Vncreatures, the new species is characterized by dense, smooth hair, body and head length from 14 to 18 cm, tail length of 20 to 23 cm.

Specimens of tree rats were collected in Son La and Lao Cai, Kon Tum and Nghe An.
