VietNamNet Bridge – A newborn baby was reported to be nearly buried alive with his dead mother in a mountain village in Quang Binh province in central Vietnam.

On December 5, Ho Thi Lon, 37, a Chut ethinic minority woman in Ka Ai village in Dan Hoa commune, Minh Hoa district, Quang Binh province died from hermorrhaging after delivering a son.

According to Stieng people’s beliefs, the baby was a omen and he must be buried alive. Under this unsound custom, the family decided to bury the baby with his mother.

The border guards at the Cha Lo International Border Gate knew the case and timely went to the village to save the baby.

They persuaded the family and the villagers that the baby was innocent in his mother’s death and the baby was adopted by his aunt.

Recently a similar case happened in Binh Phuoc Province with a newborn baby of a Stieng family. The baby was also timely rescued by local police as he was about to be buried.
