Nghe An province focuses on reviewing and building additional mechanisms, policies and financial resources for development and promoting administrative reform, creating a favorable business investment environment to attract investment into the western region.

Within the framework of the event "Displaying, introducing, promoting OCOP products, typical products and potentials of Western Nghe An" in Hanoi (November 17-18) at the campus of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, the seminar "Potential, advantages and strategic orientation for socio-economic development in Western Nghe An" was held.

Before the discussion session, delegates watched video clips about the potential, advantages and socio-economic development situation of Western Nghe An and listened to a report on the current status of socio-economic development, potential and the development orientation of Western Nghe An in the spirit of Resolution No. 39-NQ/TW dated July 18, 2023.

In order to provide more specific perspectives on the current situation, potential, advantages, and difficulties in regional development, factors affecting development, Party Secretary of Nghe An Province – Mr. Thai Thanh Quy said that the locality is focusing on reviewing and building additional mechanisms, policies and financial resources for development and promoting administrative reform, creating a favorable business and investment environment to attract investment. In particular, the province will focus investment resources to form and develop 3 economic corridors associated with the western region of Nghe An, namely the Ho Chi Minh Road economic corridor; National Highway 7 economic corridor; National Highway 48A economic corridor …

At the same time, Nghe An will focus on developing high-tech agriculture, agricultural and forestry product processing industry, construction materials and eco-tourism; large-scale commodity agriculture and forestry associated with processing industry; develop various types of eco-tourism, adventure, and community-based tourism; forestry development, forest economy, forest canopy economy, medicinal herbs, high-tech agriculture associated with processing industry.

“Western Nghe An is an area with many economic difficulties, slow development, small production scale, low connectivity, and its potential and strengths not yet effectively promoted. Besides, the poverty rate is still high. The task of developing the West of Nghe An to be comprehensively strong so that ethnic minorities in the west can escape hunger and reduce poverty and have an increasingly better life is always the concern of the Party Committee and government of Nghe An province and is the main task in the province's development process", Mr. Thai Thanh Quy said.

Referring to the development of Western Nghe An, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Le Minh Hoan said that it is necessary to approach new thinking, first of all there must be the thought and determination of "must do, need to do, should do" for the Western region of Nghe An to find a solution.

He said that we should not maintain the mindset that mountainous areas are poor and ethnic people are miserable, but we need to have optimism so that we can have initiatives and work together to change the Western region.

"We see the vitality of Western Nghe An’s units through their booths and musical performances that filled with intangible values, which will activate the tangible values of Western Nghe An," he said.

Suggesting solutions that are both general, specific, and appropriate to have a clearer orientation for the development of Western Nghe An, Minister Le Minh Hoan emphasized that it is necessary to come up with a new, more optimistic vision on a basis of coordinating systematic actions from central to local levels, with an interdisciplinary and multi-sectoral nature to both awaken the potential of indigenous resources, cultural potential, and social structure of Western Nghe An.

The Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development also said that it is necessary to approach Western Nghe An as a whole, not to be inhibited in thinking by stratified management. Because once the region overcome that and have an open mind and larger space, the value will be greater.

Minister Le Minh Hoan also said that the Ministry will take Western Nghe An as an example to implement new projects on integrated, multi-sector and multi-value view for the agricultural sector.

On behalf of the provincial leaders, Chairman of Nghe An Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Duc Trung affirmed that the province fully and seriously absorbs all opinions from which to propose specific solutions and policies, even breakthrough policies, especially in the context that Nghe An is receiving great attention from the Central Government with the Politburo issuing Resolution No. 39-NQ/ Central Committee on construction and development of Nghe An province to 2030, with a vision to 2045 and the provincial planning for the period of 2021 - 2030, with vision to 2050 that have been approved by the Prime Minister.

These are two very important bases for the development of Nghe An province, in which the Western region develops rapidly and sustainably, maximizing the advantages of the forest economy, under the forest canopy, and at border gates; historical and cultural values; effectively respond to natural disaster prevention and climate change.
