VietNamNet Bridge - On September 11, while fishing in the waters off the Gulf of Tonkin, Mr. Vu Xuan Trong (from Quynh Luu district, Nghe An province) and the crew members were stunned when seeing a huge fish in their net. The fish has a length of 2.4 m, a width of 1.5 m and a weight of more than 300kg.

The 300kg ocean sun fish is frozen.
"From my childhood I’ve never seen any fish bigger than that. At that time we tried to communicate with the Ben Thuy coastal communication station and knew that this is a rare ocean sun fish, so we immediately tried to save it," Trong said.
The same day, fisherman Nguyen Tien Thanh (also from Quynh Luu district, Nghe An province) also caught an ocean sun fish, which is 1.4 m long, 1 m wide, weighing more than 100kg.

Hundreds of curious people flocked to a wharf in Quynh Luu district to witness the giant fish. Both fishermen have contacted with the Vietnam Museum of Nature to donate the fish.
This was the second time in less than one month that fishermen of Quynh Luu district caught an ocean sun fish.
Earlier, on August 27, Bui Huu Can, from Quynh Phuong commune of Quynh Luu district, also caught one ocean sun fish weighing about 120kg.
Can also donate the fish to the Vietnam Museum of Nature.
