VietNamNet Bridge – Hundreds of people in Nghi Phu commune in the central province of Nghe An flocked to the road to run after two dog thieves. One was seized and beaten.



On the evening of June 20, while watching television, some people in Nghi Phu commune heard the sound of a motorbike and dog barking. They ran to the road to check, and saw two men were trying to catch a dog.

They shouted for help from neighbors to catch the thieves. Hundreds of people flocked to the road to chase the two thieves. The thieves sped up to run away. However, they fell off their motorbike at an intersection. One escaped while the remaining thief was surrounded and beaten by a hundred people. The vehicle was burnt down.

When police appeared, the motorbike was completely burnt to the ground. The thief fainted and was taken to a hospital.

Police are identifying the two dog thieves and finding people who burned the motorbike.

Catching dogs is rampant in Nghe An and Ha Tinh provinces, in central Vietnam. Whenever locals detect dog thieves, they usually did not report to police but used “the law of jungle” against thieves. Some dog thieves were beaten to death and burnt with their motorbikes.
