VietNamNet Bridge – On June 26, a man caught a snake with two feet in his yard, located in Dom hamlet, Chau Phong commune, Quy Hop district in the central province of Nghe An.

The man stroke the snake dead to soak in a jar of alcohol.

The snake is around 50 cm long and has two feet in the middle of body. Each foot has five fingers, with nails. The feet look like those of lizards. The soles of the feet are covered by rough, yellow skin.

Local residents have embellished mysterious stories about the strange snake.

Dr. Hoang Xuan Quang from the Vinh City University told VietNamNet that the snake may be a new species but scientists must research it. In fact, there is no snake with feet.

Analyzing pictures of the snake, Dr. Nguyen Quang Truong, from the Institute for Biological Resources of Vietnam, confirmed that it is a grass snake.

He said square-head snake species (Boiga Kraepelini) does not have feet. It is highly possible that the snake was swallowing the prey when it was struck dead, and the feet of the prey came out from its stomach.

“The dead snake’s stomach swelled out in comparison with its head and body. We can define what animal that the snake swallowed when we disembowel it. It is a normal phenomenon in nature,” Dr. Truong said.

This species lives throughout Vietnam. The major food of this species of snake is reptile and birds.
