VietNamNet Bridge – Vietnamese-American tennis player Daniel Nguyen defeated young talent Nguyen Van Phuong in the men’s singles quarter-final of VTF Masters 500-Hai Dang Cup yesterday in Tay Ninh Province.

Nguyen from host club Tay Ninh, 521 in ATP rankings, easily beat Phương from Becamex Binh Duong 6-1 in the first set. 

In the second, Nguyen secured a tie-break victory of 11-9, winning the match 6-1, 7-6.

In the men’s doubles, first seeds Tran Ngoc Quoc Vinh and Nguyen Truong Thinh from Tay Ninh beat Nguyen Dac Tien and La Xuan Hau from Hanoi. Pair Bui Tri Nguyen and Nguyen Anh Thang from host Tay Ninh also beat Van Huu Nguyen Vu and Nguyen Le Minh Hau from Da Nang.

Nguyen will play top player Ly Hoang Nam from Becamex Binh Duong in the semi-final, held today. Previously, Nam defeated Tet Thai Nguyen from Ho Chi Minh City 6-0, 6-2. Meanwhile, Trinh Linh Giang from hosts Tay Ninh will play Nguyen Dac Tien from Hanoi.
