Thien now attends China Junior 16 – Beijing 2011. He defeated Swedish player Fred Simonsson in the first game. Today, September 28, he will face Gao Xin (China), who ranks 71st in ITF ranking.
This is good news for Thien, who had to take a rest for half of a year owning to wounds and missed the Rolland Garros.
Last year, Thien participated in U18 (group 3) tournaments of the ITF. This year, he has moved to the group 2. This is new progress in his career.
Ranking behind Thien in the ITF ranking is Canada’s, Edward Nguyen Thai Binh, a Vietnamese origin. Four years ago, Binh emerged as a “child prodigy” of tennis in Canada when he won the championship at the Les Petits As tournament for players under 14 years old in France. This is the tournament that Rafael Nadal (Spain), Richards Gasque (France), Juan Carlos Ferrero (Spain), Kim Clijsters (Belgium) and Martina Hingis (Switzland) were crowned when they were young.
