In 2002, after a long period of absence from the world’s biggest beauty contest, Miss World, Vietnam marked its return at the 15th position for Mai Phuong, an 18-year-old girl who had just been crowned Miss Vietnam 2002.

Two years later, Miss Vietnam 2004 Nguyen Thi Huyen ranked 10th at the Miss World held the same year.

In 2009, Miss Vietnam Mai Phuong Thuy ranked 17th and in 2009, Huong Giang, a top-ten contestant at Miss Vietnam 2006 pageant was named at the 16th post.

In 2010-2013, Vietnam’s representatives did not win any title or rank highly at this pageant. This poor result is explained that Vietnam sent only the runners-up of the national pageant Miss Vietnam or the winners of small beauty contests to Miss World.

When Nguyen Thi Loan was selected as Vietnam’s representative at Miss World 2014, the public was suspicious about her performance.    

Unlike other representatives, Loan had quietly prepared for the event for a long time, before she was selected as the official representative. Loan quietly expressed herself in England, although she did not receive much attention from the public and entered the top 25. After four years, Vietnam again placed highly in the planet’s largest beauty contest.

Vietnam may hold Miss World Vietnam next year to choose the representative for the Miss World 2015.

Miss World 2011 Ivan Sarcos (Venezuela) is coming to Vietnam in January 2015 to serve on the jury panel at the finals of the 2014 Miss Ao Dai Vietnam pageant.

The 2014 Miss Ao Dai Vietnam pageant broadcasts live on VTV6 channel, Vietnam Television. After nine live shows in the past two months, the pageant has selected the top 12 finalists.
