The 32-year-old player beat seed No 10 Kashyap Parupalli of India in the men's second round match 17-21, 21-13, 21-18.

On the women's side, Vu Thi Trang lost to seed No 6 Wang Yihan of China for the second time this month 21-18, 17-21, 21-12.
